Banana Catsup is part 2 of my “Pin@y” series on postwar Philippines and the conception of Filipino “resilience” that stems from our years of foreign occupation.
Banana catsup/ketchup is a commonly found condiment in any Filipino household, and was created during WWII by Maria Ylagan Orosa to ease the nation’s reliance on imported goods. Orosa was also a food chemist and soldier whose contributions kept both civilians and POWs alive throughout the war.
This piece was printed with XEROX and RISOgraph in red, light teal, and sunflower. 10 copies were collated in this limited print run.
